VICIOUS CIRCLE by Lila Richards

Now available in two parts in e-book format from Bluewood Publishing or Amazon!

Part One - When a worried listener to The Psychic Connection, a radio programme dealing with the paranormal, calls about what sounds like a particularly nasty case of emotional blackmail by local Tarot reader and self-styled spiritual teacher, Bob Ferris, the programme's resident panel, Luke Marriot, Joss Cherry, Isabel Sinclair, Geraldine Bird, and James Myerson, are curious. Just what is Bob up to? They decide to investigate, using all their varied abilities, both rational and psychic. But when Bob suddenly disappears, it seems their investigation is back to square one. Meanwhile, the remains of a woman's body have been found in a dried-out creek-bed in Queensland, Australia, not far from a former cult commune. Police investigations reveal that the victim, Claire Lomax, was eight months pregnant at the time of her death, and died of a heroin overdose. But someone had to have dumped her body in the creek ....  Declan Kelly is dispatched to New Zealand to trace the whereabouts of the last known person to see her alive.

Part Two - Sent from Brisbane, Australia, to New Zealand to track down possible murder victim Claire Lomax’s last known contact, Detective Sergeant Declan Kelly’s search leads him through the flesh-pots of Auckland's infamous Karangahape Road, to the remnants of a former commune on the scenic Coromandel Peninsula, and finally to Christchurch, where his trail meets that being followed by the Psychic Connection panel. Their combined investigations, which bring unexpected romance for Kelly and panel member Isabel Sinclair, culminate in a dramatic confrontation at a disused country church, headquarters of self-styled spiritual teacher Bob Ferris’s increasingly bizarre efforts to bring about the birth of the New Aeon.

Spent much of yesterday sorting contracts and cover art for my two new novels, Vicious Circle and The Tarot Murders, available soon as e-books from Bluewood Publishing. No vampires this time, but a group of amateur detectives who use their psychic skills to solve crimes. I'm really looking forward to starting on the edits!

Four-star Review for Restitutions of the Blood!

Posted by Lila Richards on May 10, 2013 at 10:00 PM Comments comments (0)

I recently recieved this review of Restitutions of the Blood, which has been posted to Amazon, Goodreads and Awesome Indies:

Engaging historical fiction vampire story

I enjoyed this book largely because of the evocative writing which drew me into the period and places in question. Most of the story takes place in Paris, where the main character, Alex Randall, has run to escape the consequences of misadventure in England. The reader really gets to know him well, as the character is well-developed. We get to see his (many) flaws as he struggles and fails to gain control of his new life in Paris, but is effectively rescued by a friend from his time in England, Henri de Saint Clair.

Restitutions of the Blood is, perhaps, more like the 'classic' historical vampire story than the current fad of sparkly teenage vampires and reminded me of Dracula in the way it was written, described realistically and believably as it was from the point of view of the main character, in such a way that the reader easily feels they are listening to a person of that time.

The story gently builds to a climax with skilful, engaging writing. It's the kind of story where the reader works out the secret before the main character does, and suspense is created as the story wends towards his realisation of it and how he will handle it. While it is a story that can stand alone, it's clear from the ending that there will be a sequel, and I look forward to that.

Five-Star Review for Restitutions of the Blood!

Five stars for Restitutions of the Blood!

"This author's second book certainly proves that her first was no fluke. Again she created interesting well-rounded, believable characters and her obvious knowledge of history brought the settings to life. Her vampires are credible, even likable, as they stuggle with mental battles between human morality and vampire needs. A great read with an ending that leaves you hanging for the sequel.
